Run-flat tyres allow you to keep driving after a puncture. Our mobile tyre fitters explain the pros, cons, and when to replace them.
Run-flat tyres are standard on many modern vehicles, including BMWs, Mini Coopers and several Mercedes models. They're designed with reinforced sidewalls that support the vehicle's weight even when the tyre loses air pressure — allowing you to continue driving at reduced speed (typically 50mph) for up to 50 miles. The advantage is obvious: you don't need to pull over immediately in a dangerous location. The disadvantage? Run-flat tyres cannot be repaired once they've been run flat — they must be replaced.
They also tend to cost more than standard tyres and give a firmer ride. If your car is fitted with run-flat tyres, it's likely it doesn't have a spare wheel, so you can't simply swap it yourself if you get a flat — you'll need a mobile tyre fitting service. Franks Mobile Tyres stocks run-flat tyres in a wide range of sizes and can replace them on-site at your location. If your run-flat warning light comes on, call our 24 hour emergency tyre service immediately before the tyre is damaged beyond safe use.
