Scotland's climate puts unusual demands on tyres — from summer road trips to the Highlands to icy December mornings in Edinburgh. Here's a seasonal tyre maintenance guide for Scottish drivers. Spring (March–May): After a hard winter, check for sidewall cracks, uneven wear and low tread. Spring is also a good time to swap back from winter to summer or all-season tyres.
Call your Franks mobile tyre fitting branch to arrange the seasonal swap. Summer (June–August): Check tyre pressure more frequently in hot weather as pressure increases. Inspect tread depth before any long holiday drive — don't trust worn tyres on motorways. Autumn (September–November): With wet and leaf-covered roads returning, tread depth becomes critical.
Franks recommends not letting tread go below 3mm for autumn and winter driving. Winter (December–February): If you haven't fitted winter or all-season tyres, now is the time. Our 24 hour emergency tyre service is busiest in January and February — don't wait until you're broken down in the snow. Your mobile tyre fitter can assess your tyres and advise on the best options for your driving needs.
